Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d’information (France)

The Agence nationale de la sécurité des systèmes d’information (ANSSI), established on July 7, 2009, is France’s national authority responsible for cybersecurity. Reporting to the Secretariat-General for National Defence and Security, ANSSI’s mission is to protect the country’s information systems, particularly those of the state and critical national infrastructure, by proposing protection rules, monitoring their implementation, and responding to cyberattacks. The agency plays a central role in cyber defense by providing expertise, coordinating with government and private sectors, and ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards. ANSSI also focuses on preventing data theft and sabotage, supporting risk assessment, secure configuration, and continuous monitoring to enhance France’s cybersecurity resilience. Led by Director General Vincent Strubel since 2023, ANSSI has grown to a staff of around 600 with a budget of approximately €100 million, reflecting its critical role in safeguarding France’s digital ecosystem.
