    PCI Security Standards Council

The PCI Security Standards Council (PCI SSC) is the global authority on payment card data protection, operating as an industry-driven forum since its founding in 2006 to provide a unified international response to payment-related cyber threats. The Council supports both merchants and service providers by offering the PCI Data Security Standard (PCI DSS), a rigorous technical and operational framework, to reduce the risk of cardholder data breaches and to help make the global payment ecosystem the safest place to conduct electronic transactions. Acting as the industry’s primary standard-setting body, the PCI SSC monitors emerging fraud patterns, issues threat-adaptive updates (such as the mandatory v4.0.1 in 2026), coordinates with major card brands like Visa and Mastercard, and serves as the single point of reference for secure payment technologies, ensuring a coordinated and resilient global approach to financial data security.
